"Team" Moon Knight
This page features characters who are part of Moon Knight's series and can be considered his "team," as Moon Knight rarely worked alone.
His Internal Team
Marc Spector, mercenary. His original identity. Believes he was resurrected from death by the Egyptian moon god, Khonshu, to patrol the streets and protect travelers in the night. Not shown out of costume as anything but a shadowy figure (above left) for his initial appearances (in Werewolf by Night).
Steven Grant, millionaire. Provides the funds that allow Marc to fight crime as Moon Knight.
Jake Lockley, cab driver. Gets the "word on the street" that provides helpful information for MK to use. Eventually uses a fake mustache to help disguise his identity (so he isn't mistaken for millionaire Steven Grant), and was often seen with a toothpick sticking out of his mouth.
Moon Knight, superhero. The "Fist of Khonshu," who defends the innocent and battles injustice in the name of the Egyptian god of the moon, Khonshu, protector of travelers.
Mister Knight, the crime-fighting personality that is sometimes depicted as being the hero he would be without Khonshu's influence.
Khonshu. Years after the real god was expelled from him, Marc's guilt over killing Bushman creates this new identity, perhaps to be a scapegoat for his murderous action and the period of brutality and depravity that follows. At first, this persona simply goads him to kill, using the guise of a faceless Bushman.
The Rest of the Team
Frenchie. Marc's mercenary partner and matchstick-chewing pilot; real name: Jean-Paul DuChamp. Stuck by Marc's side throughout the years as his devoted friend and fellow crime-fighter (providing aerial assistance and more when needed) until his character was rebooted in 2006. Eventually turned into "Bloodline" to defend the secrets of the Templars against Seth the Immortal, who used his descendant--Marc Spector--to defeat him. This aspect of his life has been either rejected by later writers or possibly even negated from ever happening (in "The Resurrection War"). In the reboot, he was redefined as having stayed with Marc due to his being in love with him (despite the fact that the story of his great love--with Isabelle Kristel--was told in the first series).
Marlene. After Marc couldn't save her father from being killed right in front of him, he helped save Marlene from a similar fate, seemingly at the cost of his own life. She was there when he was "brought back to life" under the statue of Khonshu, and she has been his assistant in all things--even in his activities as Moon Knight--right from the beginning. She fell in love him him, especially his Steven Grant persona, and, even though their relationship had its ups and downs, she always came back to him--up until the characters all experienced some changes in the 2006 reboot. After 2006, she mostly keeps her distance and stays out of his life, especially after she has "Jake's" daughter. Originally given the last name Fontaine in her first appearance, this is quickly changed to Arlaune, and the Fontaine is later declared to be her "married name."
Gena runs the diner where Jake Lockley stops by to "get the dirt" from homeless man Crawley, whom she begrudgingly obliges with a cup of boiling water for his used teabag. Her two sons discover Moon Knight's true identity, and the three of them become "agents" of his. In the 2006 reboot, she goes from being a svelte, youngish single mom to a frumpy, older woman grieving the death of her younger son--and blaming Marc for filling the boy's head with war stories, encouraging him to enter the military himself, where he gets killed.
Crawley is a poor, practically homeless man, whose wife took their son and left him years ago when he couldn't provide for them as a textbook salesman and took to drinking. He frequents Gena's Diner with his old used teabag (and several flies buzzing around his head), requesting nothing more than some steaming hot water. With excellent diction, he spills all he knows about what's going down to the ever-inquisitive Jake, who is always willing to reward him financially and fill his belly. Bertrand Crawley goes on to become one of MK's "agents" when he is taken into the superhero's confidence. As his agent, he is no longer penniless but must continue to act like he is to continue to be of use to the crimefighter.
Ricky & Ray, Gena's two boys. Eager to help MK fight crime. As of 2006, the older version of these boys finds Ricky killed in action in the military and Ray, a former military pilot, taking over for Frenchie as MK's assistant.
Samuels, butler & manservant at the Grant mansion. Aware of his boss's other identities.
Nedda, the Grant mansion cook. Also aware of MK's personas.
Detective Flint. Has sought out MK's assistance on specific cases but is not aware of his true identity.
Tigra. ML's lover in the West Coast Avengers, Greer Grant-Nelson ("Tigra") later joins him at his Midnight Mission to spy on him for the Avengers after MK almost helped usher in an "Age of Khonshu."
Chloe. Last of the Knights Templar order, she becomes Frenchie's lover, intending to trigger his transformation into "Bloodline" against Seth the Immortal. Entered the Spector mansion as a replacement for both Samuels and Nedda--wonder who chose her work uniform!
Buck Lime, former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. Becomes MK's assistant and tech provider when Marc lives in L.A.
Reese Williams. A teenager who was abducted and turned into a vampire but rescued by Moon Knight. He hires her as his secretary for the Midnight Mission.
Soldier. A former Hydra agent who turned away from them and has been trying to redeem himself. Helped protect the neighborhood he shares with MK and even filled in as Mister Knight for a pivotal confrontation with the villain Zodiac when MK couldn't get there in time.
Hunter's Moon. Born in Luxor, Egypt, and a devoted follower of Khonshu, Dr. Yehya Badr believes himself to be the god's "other" fist. At first an opponent of MK's, he then becomes a begrudging ally and even filled in as "Dr. Moon" at the Midnight Mission when MK was arrested by Mayor Fisk's Thunderbolts.
Dr. Andrea Sterman. Assigned by the Avengers to treat and evaluate MK after the whole "Age of Khonshu" incident. Specializes in cases of "superhuman menticide," the results of a mortal having his brain affected through contact with something superhuman. Is concerned about what exposure to Khonshu has done to Spector's mind.
8-Ball. A small-time villain that MK terrorized for information, Jeff Hagees would later go on to repent his lifestyle and seek to aid the Midnight Mission, eventually as a full-term member.
Midnight. Son of the original "Midnight Man," an old villain of MK's, Jeff Wilde tries to use his father's name, costume, and techniques for good as MK's partner. But when he is captured and experimented on by the Secret Empire, he becomes a deranged villain, making me question whether to include him on this page.
Additional Allies
Khonshu. Questionable as an ally. Depending on which series you read and which interpretation of the character is presented in it (as it is not always clearly explained whether it is really Khonshu or just a fictitious representation of him that lives in Marc's head that you are seeing), he may be an ally or adversary. On one side, he resurrected Marc (more than once?) and gave him abilities to fight crime among the superheroes of the world. On the other side, he possessed Marc without his knowing, tried to trick him into giving up his body and mind so he could claim it permanently, and used him to defeat the Avengers in an attempt to usher in an "Age of Khonshu." Friend or for, you decide.
Priests of Khonshu. When Marc tries to retire from his life as MK, they give him a new assortment of weapons and send him to do Khonshu's work, calling for him psychically with assignments for him to go on. This ends when Khonshu himself possesses Marc and joins the West Coast Avengers to experience life as one of them.
